The One I Had to Find

A mystery, a scarf, and a few memories from Africa

If there was ever one edition of Le Monde d’Hermès I absolutely had to track down, it was this one. Not just because of the gorgeous, beaded scarf design featured on the cover (though that alone is reason enough), but because of a tiny piece of missing information that’s been driving me a little bit crazy

Who is the unnamed “Cameroon Artist”?

One of the things I’ve always loved about Hermès is how they credit their artists. Names, stories and origins. It’s part of what makes each piece feel personal. But what about this cover design turned scarf design? The artist is only listed as “Cameroon artist.” No name. No details. And despite all my digging, the internet has turned up all of nothing.

So, I did what any scarf-obsessed researcher would do: I tracked down this specific issue of Le Monde d’Hermès to see if it held the answer.

More Than Just a Scarf

This edition held another kind of pull for me too. It reminded me of my own time in Africa. Places like Namibia, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Chad and more. I don’t usually talk much about myself here, but flipping through these pages brought back so many memories, I couldn’t help but share a few personal snapshots as well.
